Best Voodoo Field Hockey Sticks – Guidance & Reviews On Top Sticks

Thinking to buy a new hockey stick and not sure which one is more suitable for you? The more sticks you check out, the more confusing it can get. They share similar features after all, but they also come with some impressive discrepancies in prices.

There is nothing to worry about though. I was in the same situation. I thought – why would I buy a branded stick that costs twice as much as a non-branded one? So I did not. I must say – you cannot see the quality in features and specifications, yet you can get some hints.

But play a few games with a non-branded stick and you will tell the difference right away. It has no feel. If you are lucky – I repeat, if you are lucky – it might break soon enough to force you to buy a proper one. I recommend top brands because they are reputable, provide a good service and know what quality means.

Voodoo is one of those middle options. It is not among the top three brands, but it is definitely within the top 10. In other words, these products are accessible in price and provide great value for money due to their high quality standards. But before moving on to the best Voodoo field hockey sticks, here is what you need to look for in such a purchase.

What to look for in Voodoo field hockey sticks?

There are a few considerations that can lead you in the right direction.

Weight

Composite sticks are more popular than wood alternatives these days because they come with more power. Besides, weight guidelines become irrelevant. Normally, defenders tend to rely on heavier sticks for tackles, while attackers require lightweight sticks for flips and flexibility. In reality, it is a personal preference and the difference is often insignificant.

Head shape and bend

There are more head shapes out there. You have to focus on three of them though – J head, Midi and Maxi. The first one has plenty of playing surface and it obviously curves up like a J. On the other hand, if you are a midfielder or an attacker who dribbles a lot, you might want the Midi style because of its speed. Midi heads are longer than both J head and Maxi shapes.

When it comes to the bend (also referred to as the bow), you should know that less of it adds to your control, while more of it will help with aerials and scoops. A low bend is also a good choice to keep unintentional lifts to a minimum, but also for drag flicks.

Sizing ideas

At a first glance, it might feel like a longer stick is a better option, but is it? Not only you risk undercutting and unintentionally raising balls, but you also get lots of contacts with the playing surface. Not only will it damage the stick, but it may also break it. You should know that most manufacturers do not include this kind of fracture in their warranties because, after all, it is your fault.

On the other hand, some might find shorter sticks desirable too. You will end up lower to the ground – just enough to improve your skills. But then, it might be uncomfortable at times and even cause back problems.

All in all, comfort is a must. There are two general methods to determine the right size:

  • Measure the distance from the ground to the top of your hipbone. It can be a bit lower or higher, but generally speaking, this is a good size that will work for most players – both amateurs and professionals.
  • If you are not convinced with the first method, you can also measure the distance between your armpit and knee. If you happen to try a few sticks out in a local store, hold it upside down like a crutch. The stick should be close to the knee.

There are more considerations in the process, such as the material (each type has its own pros and cons). Other than that, I recommend keeping your personal needs in mind when looking for the best Voodoo field hockey sticks. So, what are the best rated products on the market and why?

VOODOO Paradox LTD Unlimited Composite Field Hockey Stick

VOODOO Paradox LTD Unlimited Composite Field Hockey Stick Free Grip & Carrying Bag (36.5")
  • Voodoo’s most powerful weapon, this year’s Paradox LTD Unlimited hockey stick has been designed and constructed for true performance under pressure.
  • Trusted by some of the world’s top players including Tom Craig and Dylan Wotherspoon of Australia, the Paradox LTD Unlimited delivers superior ball control through a high balance-point (lighter feel and quicker head speed),
  • while not compromising an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio
  • The v1 provides perfect balance and weight distribution to give you optimal power and control. It’s unique profile and rounded edges are great for power shots be it traditional, tomma’s or upright backies, and of course for the basic controlled passing and stick skills.
  • Maximum curve is 23mm at 300mm

I tried a few different sticks from Voodoo. This was not the first one, but it was definitely the most impressive one. I think it could be a real weapon on the field if used correctly. This stick has been built to take the pressure and a good beating under all kinds of circumstances – official games or games with friends.

The stick is available in three sizes – 36.5”, 37.5” and 38.5” – and one design only – a mix of yellowish green and black. It is made of a high percentage of carbon and a few other materials to increase its durability and resistance to impact. Impact areas have also been reinforced for less worries during a game.

I enjoyed the power to weight ratio. While a bit heavier than sticks specifically designed for attackers, this unit has a massive power. Its rounded edges are perfect for all kinds of shots, not to mention skills and ball control. The maximum curve is set at 23mm. Other than that, top players in official leagues use it too.

Pros

  • Used and recommended by top players
  • Superior ball control
  • Excellent feel
  • Good ratio for power and weight

Cons

  • No small sizes or other designs

VOODOO Vengeance V2 Yellow Composite Outdoor Field Hockey Stick

VOODOO Vengeance V2 Yellow Composite Outdoor Field Hockey Stick Free Grip & Carrying Bag (36.5")
  • Voodoo Vengeance V2 Yellow
  • 80% COMPOSITE Carbon Kelvar
  • while not compromising an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio
  • A player driven brand, the Vengeance range brings top quality sticks offered at different carbon compositions
  • Probow Mold

This is one of my first and best Voodoo field hockey sticks for a few different reasons. I will be honest with you – I used this stick as a beginner and not necessarily with its capabilities in mind, but with the great value for money. Besides, the package also comes with a free carrying bag – a little thing that I loved.

The brand is driven by professional players’ needs and this stick makes no exception either. It is based on 80% composite carbon Kevlar – lightweight, durable and stiff enough for powerful shots. It is recommended to more experienced players then, yet newbies can also boost their skills.

Coming with a probow mold, a nonslip grip and a great feel, this stick comes in three sizes and one design.

Pros

  • Probow mold
  • High content of carbon
  • Good power and weight
  • Superb ball control

Cons

  • Not the best option for beginners

VOODOO Vanquish Street Composite Outdoor Field Hockey Stick

VOODOO Vanquish Street Composite Outdoor Field Hockey Stick Free Grip & Carrying Bag (36.5")
  • Voodoo Vanquish Street Composite Outdoor Field Hockey Stick
  • 80% COMPOSITE Carbon Kelvar
  • PROBOW
  • while not compromising an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio
  • A player driven brand, the Vengeance range brings top quality sticks offered at different carbon compositions

The free bag seems to be the thing of this company because this stick also came with one. It is not why I recommend it as one of the best Voodoo field hockey sticks though. The outdoor stick is mostly recommended to more experienced players and will most likely feel too stiff for a newbie.

It has a high percentage of carbon Kevlar in its composition – 80%. It will provide good control and lots of power, but it must be handled correctly. It only comes in two sizes and one design style.

Apart from power and style, you will also have a comfortable feel. It feels good and different, but also because of the grip – which, by the way, is nonslip, even if your hands tend to get sweaty.

Pros

  • Lots of power
  • Durable
  • Excellent feel
  • Good rapport for weight and strength

Cons

  • Not too many sizes

VOODOO Vengeance v2 Gold Outdoor Field Hockey Stick

VOODOO Vengeance v2 Gold Outdoor Field Hockey Stick Free Grip & Carrying Bag (37.5")
  • Voodoo Vengeance v2 Gold Outdoor Field Hockey Stick
  • 80% COMPOSITE Carbon Kelvar
  • PROBOW
  • while not compromising an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio
  • A player driven brand, the Vengeance range brings top quality sticks offered at different carbon compositions.Voodoo Vengeance v2 Gold Outdoor Field Hockey Stick

Part of the Vengeance collection designed for experienced players, this could be one of the best Voodoo field hockey sticks if you want power and strength. It comes in three sizes and features a dark and aggressive design based on blue, black and gold.

The power is given by its stiffness. With 80% carbon Kevlar, there is almost no flexibility at all in this stick. This is the main reason wherefore it is not a good choice for beginners. A bag is included in the package.

The grip is nonslip even if you play on a rainy day. Other than that, the stick is lightweight and will most likely take a good beating without compromising on durability. I must say – it does not feel too sturdy, but it is.

Pros

  • Lots of power and strength
  • Durable
  • Feels light, but it is sturdy
  • Good in defense and attack

Cons

  • Too stiff for beginners

Final Thoughts

In the end, these are the best Voodoo field hockey sticks. They are extremely similar in styles and features because they come from similar collections. Voodoo is mostly driven by players, meaning most of its products are designed for those who are already familiar with the game, rather than newbies. They usually come with high amounts of carbon in their composition, hence their lightweight design too.

Now, which one is the best for you? It is up to you to decide. Every player has their own expectations and needs, so this is what you have to pay attention to.
